Visit to Amar Jyoti - School for Disabled

We had the excellent opportunity to visit with a great organization in Delhi called Amar Joyti. Digvijay had been speaking with them over the phone for the past number of months and so it was good to finally meet up with them in person.
Amar Jyoti is an organization that provides rehabilitative services to persons with disabilities through inclusive and integrated education. This means for every disabled child at the school, there is also a non-disabled child as well. The children are integrated in almost every aspect of school life. The organization also provides a slew of other services such as medical care, vocational training, child guidance and self-employment.
There were about 450 kids running around at the school. It was a hustle and bustle of activity. I was particularly impressed at how positive all the handicapped children were. They simply jumped right into a game of cricket or were having a blast pushing the other kids around in their wheelchairs. And by pushing I mean at full speed.
We were treated royally by Dr. Tuli and her hard working team. It was a great time sharing meals and stories with them. Dr. Tuli and her team have been helping out the children of Delhi since 1981 and it is great to see the amount of growth they have experienced.
